Lawn aeration

Technically speaking, aeration is the naturally occurring process of air exchange between the soil and the surrounding atmosphere. Practically speaking, aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn. These plugs are about 6/8 cm long and about 2/3 cm in diameter. The plug size depends mainly on soil type and how soft the soil is. This process is referred to as core aeration and the machine used is a hollow-tiner.

Benefits are: -
a. Reduces soil compaction.
b. Improves air circulation, water and fertilizer uptake.
c. Enhances thatch breakdown.
d. Improves turf grass rooting.
e. Enhances heat and drought stress tolerance.

It is important to note that the lawn area must not be hard and dry! WATER WELL before aeration is done to achieve optimum results.
